Northwest Now's regular broadcast season runs from mid-September to mid-May. The broadcast season features 30 new programs that include both reporting from the field, and in-studio discussions. Every summer though, managing editor Tom Layson has the chance to shoot, write and edit special projects for use in the upcoming season. These pieces don't include the studio-discussions and take weeks to shoot and edit. We hope you enjoy this collection of Northwest Now specials.

Tom Layson is KBTC's Managing Editor and comes to the job having worked as a television news reporter and anchor in Yakima, Terre Haute, Louisville, Sacramento, Columbus and New York-New Jersey.

Tom anchored 13 hours of wall-to-wall live coverage in the NY/NJ market during 9-11 which is but one example of the many thousands of hours he’s been on the set or in the field delivering live coverage, interviewing Presidents and Governors, leading election and political coverage, and guiding viewers through many hours of breaking news from hostage crisis' to airplane crashes to natural disasters.

Tom received an Emmy for KBTC's Northwest Now, and has served a columnist for local newspapers, a commentator on local talk shows, and a media analyst for CBS radio.

Tom is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and currently resides in the Puyallup area.

Northwest Now Associate Producer Chris Anderson joined KBTC in September of 2014.  Before his arrival at KBTC he worked in Seattle for seven years at KCPQ and KING as an Assignment Editor.  Chris has 20 years of experience as a television journalist, working as an assignment editor and  producer in markets like, Sacramento, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Monterey/Salinas and Santa Barbara.  He attended San Jose State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Television and Radio Journalism.  Chris is a native of the Pacific Northwest and currently resides in Seattle.
