The Return of a Killer
Washington's Whooping Cough Epidemic
May 14, 2012
An old killer, whooping cough, is epidemic in Washington State as of 2012. Only a few generations after the disease was wiped out by modern vaccinations, grandparents and great grandparents are re-living the bad old days watching children suffer with a malady that science had controlled. We'll ask why this disease is back, but most importantly, learn more about how parents should vaccinate their children, what kind of resources are available to make sure each child has access to a meaningful immunization program, what the options are if a child has contracted whooping cough, and what other diseases are trying to make a comeback in the public health arena.
