Ready to Learn
September 20, 2012
Attacking several problems at once, a unique partnership between community-based organizations is trying to address homelessness while improving children's academic performance. Lead by the Tacoma Housing Authority, the multi-faceted coalition is writing grants, building programs, delivering services and providing guidance to a group of about fifty families in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood. In the first Northwest Now of the new season, reporter Tom Layson shows us who is involved, how the program works, and gets feedback from the families, teachers and administrators who are taking part. If the program is successful, it could serve as a model for the rest of the country.
